Small Steps, Big Impact: Sense Employees Share Their Green Resolutions

At Sense, reducing carbon emissions isn’t just our mission—it’s part of how we live every day. As we welcome the new year, we asked our team to share their resolutions for a more sustainable 2025. Here’s what they had to say:

Big Changes at Home

Several employees are tackling large-scale home upgrades to cut energy use and shrink their carbon footprint:

• Installing heat pumps: Jono and Deanne are replacing their HVAC systems with heat pumps this spring. These systems not only lower energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also offer consistent temperature and humidity control. Bonus: They often qualify for rebates!
• Boosting insulation: Karen recently improved insulation throughout her home and expects to save up to 20% on heating and cooling costs. She’s using her Sense system to track the difference compared to last year. Stay tuned—we’ll share her results soon!

Everyday Changes That Add Up

Not every resolution involves a major project. Many of us are focusing on smaller, everyday actions, like grocery shopping habits:

• Buying local foods: Reducing the distance food travels helps cut greenhouse gas emissions. Deanne is skipping red meat entirely, while Jono recommends choosing locally sourced meats. For shrimp lovers, Karen is cutting back while Heather suggests opting for sustainable wild Pacific blue shrimp.
• Reducing plastic waste: We’re paying closer attention to packaging. PETE (#1) and HDPE (#2) plastics are the easiest to recycle, so we’re choosing those over less-recyclable plastics (#3–7) to ensure our recycling efforts make a real impact.
