About Your Role at Sense

What drew you to work at Sense?

I wanted to work on an important problem, and I think climate change is perhaps the most important problem right now! I was excited to find a way that I could use my skillset as a data scientist to help with climate change.

What’s been your proudest moment at Sense so far?

My team recently shipped a major device disaggregation improvement. We got feedback from some of our users about how impactful the improvements were, and that made the work even more meaningful. I like making the Sense experience better for our users and our customers.

Thoughts on the Energy Industry

How do you think Sense is shaping the future of energy?

Sense is showing what is possible with next generation meters and consumers. We have data about how people are using energy that can help utilities plan so that the grid will be able to continue to supply people with energy.

What’s a term or concept in energy that more people should know about?

You don’t have to stop using energy to help the planet or help the grid. Shifting when you use energy can also be helpful. There are lots of ways to use energy more efficiently that don’t require giving up significant comfort.

Life Outside of Work

What’s your go-to way to recharge after a long day?

I like to read or put on a podcast and make dinner.

What’s the most recent book, movie, or podcast you loved?

My favorite podcast is “Tales from the Back Row” by Amy Odell. She’s a fashion journalist who loves fashion but isn’t afraid to be critical of how the industry treats people and the planet. She’s also very critical of fashion’s embrace of tech oligarchs.

What’s a personal goal you’re working on this year?

Last year I read 60 books. I’m going for at least 61 this year.
