Save energy. Save money.

Understanding how much energy your home is using, when and where, empowers you to find savings. Sense gives you the tools to break it down and take action.

Spending

See your spending month-to-date and what you’re trending towards. Is your bill higher than you were expecting?

Trends

Look at how your use trends by day over the course of the month. Can you pinpoint the outliers?

See what’s happening at home

With machine-learning device detection and smart plug integrations, Sense shows you what’s turned on and off, so you gain insight you can’t get from other smart devices.

Now

The Now screen shows you which devices are running right now. The bigger the bubble, the more power it’s using!

Wattage

You can always see exactly how much energy you’re using at any moment.

Timeline

The timeline keeps a history of on/off events, so you can look back to see when your kids turned off their video games.

Track important loads

You can reliably monitor up to two 120V or 240V circuits directly. Perfect for large loads, like HVAC systems and EV chargers or hard-to-detect variable motors, like heat pumps.

More than one panel?

Newer, large homes sometimes have two 200A panels in parallel that make up 400A split-service. Flex sensors make sure we’ve got your whole home covered.

Watch your backup

If you have a whole-home generator, Sense can monitor that, too. So you don’t have to be in the dark about how much electricity you’re using on standby and for how long it will last.

Or monitor your solar

It’s a not-so-secret secret. Click here to learn more about how Sense Solar can help you get the most out of your solar system.

Real-time readings

The Power Meter tells you exactly how much electricity you’re using right now, with wattage steps up and down when devices turn on and off.

Explore

Find out how much energy a device is using by going around your house turning them on or off. Time to change that incandescent bulb to an LED!

Always On

Many devices are on when you don’t even realize it. Unplug that coffee maker to see how much it draws waiting for the next cup to be made.

Lower your carbon footprint

Our mission at Sense is to reduce carbon emissions by making homes smart and efficient. The Sense app provides real-time carbon intensity data to help you reduce your footprint. So if your mission is our mission, you have the information you need to make a difference.

Regional

See your region’s Carbon Intensity (CI) number. It’s a measure ranging from 0 to 2.1 of how clean or dirty the energy being produced by the grid is right now. 0 is good! 2.1 is bad.

Forecast

Sense provides a CI forecast for the rest of the day, so you can plan accordingly. Consider charging your EV when the sun is high and CI is low.

Compare

You can compare your home’s Avg. CI to the regional CI number. Using high energy devices during periods of low CI is one way you can have a meaningful impact on climate change.

On average, with Sense installed you can save up to 9% on your energy bill.

October 2021

I am very happy with my purchase of the sense energy monitor. The user interface is wonderful, the information it provides is extremely helpful in many ways, the interface with smart plugs and the dedicated circuit monitoring works perfectly. It has detected 15 different devices in the 2 months I have had it, which is better than I expected. However, the device detection needs improvement. When a device is detected, I’m never sure if it has detected only one of several components in the device or all of it. But, I knew about this before I bought it, and hopefully this will improve over time.

Once I followed the instructions it worked great. I used them on my new variable speed air conditioner and air handler. Neither would identify and they are the largest loads in my home. I have had them in for about 8 months and they are great. Now I have all the information on these devices that I can use.

Knowing the total power usage of your home, then by each device, including the “always on” from the many devices in stand-by and sleep modes, makes a huge difference in helping shape decisions and habits to improve efficiency. I don’t check the app daily anymore, but I use it to help monitor and understand, so that I can continue to use smart plugs, schedules, and other options like delayed starts on major appliances, to save energy, support the grid, and be aware. Easy to install. Works well.

Got questions?

Can I used Dedicated Circuit Monitoring to monitor a branch circuit?

Dedicated Circuit Monitoring is designed to monitor circuits dedicated to a single device. Using Dedicated Circuit Monitoring with a branch circuit can negatively affect detection for devices on that circuit and may result in inaccurate wattage or double counting.

Can I install Sense with a generator?

Sense users with a standby generator can use the middle port to track a generator’s production within Sense. Installation with a generator system requires that the middle port is unused by solar monitoring or another feature.

Please note: an ATS is required. At this time, Sense does not support non-ATS Generators.

For instructions on setting up Sense with Generator, please consult the Sense with Generator Installation Guide.

Does Sense Flex support 400A split service?

Sense is compatible with 400A service (provided via dual 200A panels). Installation within a 400A system requires that the middle port is unused by solar monitoring or another feature.

For instructions on setting up Sense with 400A Split Service, please consult the Sense 400A Split Service Installation Guide.

Do I need an extension cable for my 400A setup?

If you’re installing Sense with Flex add-on sensors to support a 400A split-service system, it’s possible you may require an optional extension cable for your Flex sensors.

The cable length of the stock sensors is 46”. Extension cables are available in 4’, 12’, 25’, and 40’ lengths. They can be coupled up to 80’.

The cables must feed between the panels and extend up to the incoming mains in the second panel.

As an easy way to measure the required cable length for your setup, take a piece of string and extend it from the location of your Sense monitor to where the sensors will connect in your second panel, following the illustration above. Be mindful of any detours that the cable must take from panel to panel, like if it needs to be routed around a junction box or another electrical panel.

We recommend adding 5-10 inches to your measured length to add slack for cable routing and management.
